CANOE CAPITAL OF VIRGINIA

PURPOSE:

The goal of this program is to identify and develop a group of young leaders who can impact the future of Front Royal and Warren County by learning how to assume responsible community leadership roles.

The program will:
  • Familiarize participants with the community's opportunities, needs, problems, and resources.
  • Establish an effective dialogue and form friendships among participants and community leaders.
  • Develop leadership and management skills of participants. Provide training in skills such as goal setting, effective communication, decision making, team building, motivation, organization and work ethic development.

PROGRAM:

Youth Leadership Front Royal-Warren County is composed of seven monthly sessions and an opening retreat where students are introduced to each other and the program coordinators.

Approximately 15 students, representing public school, private school, and home-schoolers of the community will be accepted into the program.

Once a month the students are excused from their classes to participate in a full day of activities. They learn skills that are designed to develop their leadership skills and roles in hopes that our community will reap the benefits.

Along with developing strong leadership skills, the students are equipped with an effective benefit for college.

PROCESS:

Participation in Youth Leadership is a competitive process open to sophomores and juniors (15-17 years of age) in public, private, or home schools within Warren County. Approximately 15 students are selected for the program. Participants are selected based on the information provided on the application.

Youth Leadership is coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce's
Leadership Alumni Class of 2005.
